We must continue to battle against extremist, regressive interpretations of the Constitution that seek to deny rights to so many Americans.
Dear Friend,
Seven years ago yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges that every couple, regardless of sexual orientation, has the fundamental right to marry. The decision, which finally made marriage equality the law of the land, was met with joy and pride across the country.
While many see the Obergefell ruling as a “mission accomplished” for LGBTQ acceptance, the fact remains that this tremendous victory could easily be overturned by the Supreme Court’s conservative majority. It’s heartbreaking to think what this could do to hundreds of thousands of families.
Love is love. We need to codify Obergefell into law NOW.
As the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has shown us, we cannot rely on the Supreme Court or establishment politicians to look out for our rights. Instead, we must continue to battle against extremist, regressive interpretations of the Constitution that seek to deny rights to so many Americans.
Sign if you agree: Congress must codify the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell and enshrine marriage equality into law.
Yours in solidarity,
Ro
