DENNIS L. BAKER FOR U.S. SENATE
Why should you vote for me over the other Democrats who are running to unseat James Lankford? My goal is to advocate for real Oklahomans so that everybody who is willing to work hard has a fair shot at realizing their dreams, and I have concrete things that I support that would start us on that path. Complete Republican control has been a disaster for Oklahoma, and if we mobilize the people who are ready to vote for change we can break that stranglehold and get actual improvements for our state.
I bring something to the table that no one else does. I spent 23 years serving this country as a Special Agent for the FBI. We absolutely must have a U.S. Senator who has real world experience in addressing security concerns posed by domestic terrorism, international terrorism, and increasing authoritarianism in China, Russia, and other countries. I have been on the ground in Ukraine and Russia. I have seen firsthand how authoritarian governments destroy countries and people. Our next senator has to be able to hit the ground running on these issues because they’re a matter of life and death. I can do that.
I worked with intelligence and the rest of the intelligence community on a daily basis, including as a Supervising Agent on the Osama bin Laden unit and later as an FBI Senior Executive. My knowledge isn’t abstract and my expertise didn’t develop overnight. Oklahomans understand better than just about anyone else the absolute devastation that can come from domestic terrorism and I pledge to do everything within my power to prevent tragedies like the OKC bombing from happening again.
Here are few additional things that are very important to me.
I would cast a YES vote on the Women’s Healthcare Protection Act. Yesterday at the state Capitol I was proud to stand with activists and Oklahomans who have gone unheard and ignored by their elected officials for far too long. Oklahoma has the most restrictive abortion law in the country since Dobbs was handed down and we have to be clear. Unless we change things, women will die. Black, brown, and poor women will bear the brunt of the risk, as they so often do. Families will be sentenced to poverty. There will be educational, professional, financial and social goals that go unrealized for people who are forced to continue an unwanted pregnancy.
I am also a YES vote for a living wage. Any person willing and able to put in full time work should not have to work multiple jobs just to still be counting pennies at the end of the month to make rent. Economic stability for working families is desperately needed in Oklahoma.
