John,
The 2020 election was dubbed “the most secure election in history” by then-President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security. One key reason for that success? The dedicated election officials and poll workers who put in hours of their time to ensure our elections are safe, secure, and fair.
But because of a massive election disinformation campaign led by former President Trump and his allies, these hardworking public officials and volunteers have become the target of unprecedented threats, intimidation, and harassment. And it must stop.
That’s why Issue One launched Faces of Democracy, a campaign to amplify the voices of election workers to protect our elections and the people who run them. The campaign is powered by the personal stories and experiences of election officials and poll workers from across the country who, despite the COVID-19 pandemic and an onslaught of election lies, conducted the 2020 election safely and securely.
Faces of Democracy aims to educate the public about how our elections work, as well as advocate for the necessary improvements to our elections — like regular and sufficient funding from Congress for state and local election administration, and increased protections for election workers and their families.
Election workers are our neighbors, friends, and family members — and they are the guardians of our democracy. It’s time all of us, including our leaders in Congress, stepped up to protect those who protect our elections.
