# [#] John,
There have been many dedicated feminist leaders to campaign for, but Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney has always been a stand-out for her courage, experience, accessibility and pioneering on issues gender and racial equality
This is why I’m personally asking you to show up for Carolyn in this important stage of her campaign. Contribute whatever you can right now, and it will be an investment in our future -- both on crucial issues like justice and fairness, and on creating a Congress that looks more like the country. These are issues like paid family leave and the Equal Rights Amendment. Don't you think it’s time the United States stopped being the only democracy in the world that doesn’t include women equally in its Constitution? For thirty years, Carolyn has been a powerful and dependable voice for these issues in the halls of Congress. Without her hard work, commitment and experience, the movement for gender and racial equality would not have gained ground — both in hearts and minds and the letter of the law.
Carolyn first filed to run for Congress at the moment that Planned Parenthood v. Casey placed new restrictions on abortion — and she’s been on the frontlines of our battles ever since. Today, women’s rights are facing fresh attacks, both because of our power to decide the rate of reproduction and because this country is about to become a majority of people of color; a fact that does not matter to most Americans but still does matter to the few. If we don’t have decision-making power over our own bodies, there is no fundamental democracy.
This fight is not going to be easy. With NY-12’s district lines now drawn along a map that is entirely new, Carolyn’s reelection is going to be one of the most crucial and toughest campaigns of her career. We absolutely cannot afford to lose Carolyn’s voice in Congress. This is a moment when all of us must step up and step in.
It’s been exciting and rewarding to support Carolyn over the years, and to see her victories for gender and racial equality. New York City is a global beacon for both, and Carolyn has been our beacon in New York for real equality for all of us. Today, the stakes are high and the contest is tough, but if we show up for Carolyn, she will continue to fight for us in voice, vote and heart.
Please contribute whatever you can before Carolyn’s critical end-of-quarter deadline — which is our FINAL chance to show our force of in the leadup to this crucial primary. Democracy doesn't just happen. It depends on what we do everyday. [[link removed]]
