ICYMI: Contrast on Life Positions Clear in GOP US Senate Primary
Greenwich, CT – Friday morning, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade in a 6-3 vote. Responding to the news, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Leora Levy, the only pro-life candidate in the race, offered primary voters a clear distinction between her opponent and her on life. Connecticut residents know they cannot beat Senator Blumenthal by electing a candidate that will vote just like him on the issues.
"I am pro-choice and in the legislature worked to protect women's right to access safe early-term abortion services.
"I know the rhetoric will be heated and adversarial on this, but here in Connecticut where the right to a safe, legal, and hopefully rare abortion is safely enshrined into law, I urge focus on the issues that can change, such as making Connecticut a safer, more affordable place to raise a family and start a business."
The contrast could not be more clear. My opponent is not only proudly pro-abortion rights, but even on such a historic day bragged about how she helped enshrine abortion under Connecticut law.
See Leora Levy’s true conservative position on the Supreme Court’s Dobbs ruling, praising the bravery of SCOTUS justices and reminding Americans about the sanctity of the U.S. Constitution and judicial restraint.
Statement from Leora Levy on Defending Life:
“Today the Supreme Court decision has returned America to valuing, respecting and protecting Life. Following decades of babies’ lives being wrongfully extinguished, the Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and Dobbs v. Jackson marks a return to SCOTUS Justices upholding the Constitution and a rejection of the judicial activism of the last 50 years. Unfortunately we cannot turn back time and ensure a chance for life to the 63 million babies who never had one, but we can celebrate the end of progressive pressure to abandon the Constitution and our American values.
"Children represent the promise of America’s future. Today that future is much brighter with the decision to protect their right to birth. I commend the wisdom of our Supreme Court Justices who reaffirmed that America is a Constitutional Republic by returning this issue to the individual States as stated in our Constitution. A majority of Americans, 54%, oppose abortion. A majority of Americans agree that there should be limits on abortion:
- 71% want significant limits on abortion;
- 77% of voters support legislation banning infanticide;
- 80% of Americans believe the third trimester abortions should be illegal;
- 54% of Americans support the Hyde amendment which prohibits federal funding for abortions, this includes 53% of Independents and 29% of Democrats.
"I condemn groups, like Jane’s Revenge, who have threatened the lives of our Justices and threaten violence in response to this constitutional decision. It is irresponsible and dangerous for the media and Democrat leaders to encourage these violent intentions and actions. The unprecedented political violence we have seen at the hands of pro-abortion protestors cannot be tolerated.
"Our Supreme Court Justices have been illegally harassed and their lives have been threatened as a result of the unprecedented, politically motivated leak of the original draft. Their courage to uphold the Constitution and affirm Americans’ belief in and value for life will be remembered.
"I reject the statements of Democrat Leaders who irresponsibly have attacked Supreme Court Justices and the separation of powers enumerated in our Constitution in an effort to undermine the constitutional nature of our Republic.
"Merrick Garland: Do your job!
"Dick Blumenthal: Uphold the law!
"As the mother of three adult sons and the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America endorsed U.S Senate candidate in Connecticut, I am proud to stand for life and continue this fight in Washington."
