Nottingham is number one for the quickest EV chargers

Electric car being charged

Zap-Map and Admiral Car Insurance have joined together in search of the cities with the quickest types of charging points across the UK.

With 92 rapid chargers and 30 ultra-rapid, Nottingham sits top of the tree with a grand total of 122. The Midlands as a whole was labelled as a hotspot for charging your electric car as quickly as possible.

Chargers which are used at home are typically known as ?slow? or ?fast? devices which charge overnight. Rapid chargers can vary from 20 minutes to an hour and add around 100 miles of charge whereas ultra-rapid chargers can add around 100 miles of charge in just 15 minutes.

Work starts on Trent Street to become a wireless charging taxi rank

Trent Street Construction

Construction has now begun on Trent Street to trial new wireless charging for hackney cabs situated in the rank nearby Nottingham Station. The project will be a UK first to trial wireless technology with electric taxis!

Five wireless charging ground pads are being installed in the coming weeks whilst nine electric and hybrid taxis have been fitted with wireless charging equipment.

Local drivers will soon be able to use these vehicles to charge wirelessly and provide feedback to the project team to help understand the real-world feasibility of wireless charging and to help develop the technology further.

It is hoped that taxi drivers will top up their charge throughout the day while they wait for customers. This will significantly reduce down time spent away from the rank using plug in chargers whilst encouraging the shift to electric taxi adoption to improve local air quality, reduce noise pollution and carbon emissions in the city. The trial is set to start later in the summer 2022.
