Medstar Georgetown workers to hold candlelight vigil tonight
Hospital workers at Medstar Georgetown University will hold a candlelight vigil today (see Calendar) to try to move management past its "final" contract offer. The workers, members of 1199SEIU, have been fighting for three years for a "decent" raise and for some say over their working hours.
United Way NCA Build-a-Bear distribution seeks volunteers
United Way NCA needs volunteers this week to assist in the distribution of supplies to partner schools across the region, reports Community Services Agency Executive Director Sonte DuCote. This Friday, volunteers are needed to help retrieve and load Build-a-Bear donations; volunteers must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. [link removed] Register here. Labor On The Move: SEIU 32BJ Political Director updates
Martin Thomas has moved to a new position at SEIU 32BJ. The former 32BJ Political Director for DC, MD and VA has joined the union's Policy and Research Department, where he'll work on campaigns throughout the Union.
