Congress passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act this week – the most significant new gun safety bill since the 1990s which President Joe Biden signed into law.
I thanked NC Senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr for their bipartisan support of the Safer Communities Act. Although we differ on much politically, I appreciate our Senators' willingness to take this first step towards gun safety.
I also appreciate all the NC House Democratic Representatives for their support of the bill. (All the NC Republican Representatives in the House voted against the bill.)
We all want peaceful homes, schools, and communities whether we are Republican, Democrat or Unaffiliated. Together, we can continue progress on reducing gun violence in our country. Let's eliminate weapons of mass destruction and high capacity magazines from our schools and streets and incorporate universal background checks.
My husband Vaibhav and I set up a fundraiser to benefit Moms Demand Action in honor of our daughter Charlotte's first birthday! Click here if you would like to donate to this organization working for common sense gun laws.
There is still much to do to achieve safety in our communities. I very much want to continue the work I have started as your At-Large City Councilwoman. I humbly ask for your vote in the upcoming primary election.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Dimple Ajmera
