| As the Managing Attorney for Earthjustice’s Fossil Fuel Program, I spend a lot of time working in the Gulf of Mexico. Unfortunately, oil and gas companies are also spending a lot of time in the Gulf, working to expand fossil fuel production, despite the risks to the local community and the climate. |
| I am lucky enough to partner with a team of legal experts and community organizers across the region who are fighting on all fronts to stop this expansion. While Earthjustice attorneys are challenging permits and doing legal research to slow down and stop oil production, community members are building organizing capacity and strategy |

| We need to end our dependence on dirty energy, and yet, Big Oil continues to move us in the opposite direction. Most recently, fossil fuel companies are driving up gas prices – and profiting off them – to make the case for more fossil fuel production. But the science is resoundingly clear: No new fossil fuel infrastructure can be developed anywhere globally if we hope to stand a chance of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. |
| We must rise to the moment and continue working to end fossil fuel production not just in the Gulf, but across the country. |
| Here are just a few of the ways my team at Earthjustice is working to meet this moment: |
- We filed a lawsuit on behalf of a coalition of Gulf and environmental groups to stop a dredging project intended to allow for crude export near a Superfund site in Texas.
- We're using every legal tool we can to stop the building of a massive petrochemical plant in a part of Louisiana known as “Cancer Alley.”
- We’re putting pressure on the Biden administration to phase out federal production of fossil fuels and follow through on its climate promises!
