Roe Is Dead. The Fight for Life Begins.
|
Our take: The Supreme Court’s decision in the Dobbs case “corrects the grave constitutional error of Roe v. Wade—and finally gives the American people, through their elected representatives, the power to fix America’s extreme abortion laws and enshrine protections for the unborn in law,” said Heritage President Kevin Roberts in a statement.
New beginning: “This victory is not the end of the pro-life cause, but a new beginning. Now is the time for state lawmakers to protect life, which begins at conception,” he said. Read the entire statement here.
Podcast: Roberts talks about a post-Roe America in his weekly podcast. Watch or listen here. Read his op-ed in The Hill here.
Map of life: Heritage created an interactive map showing where all 50 states stand on protecting the unborn. Check it out here.

Supreme Court Also Defends Religious Liberty, Gun Rights
|
Parental rights: First, the court ruled that Maine couldn’t keep families from using tuition benefits at religious schools. Read the details of the school choice ruling here.
2A rights: Then it upheld New Yorkers’ right to carry firearms in public spaces for self-defense without justifying it to the state government. Read more about the gun rights case here.
Also: We examine the bipartisan Senate gun control bill and find that it risks serious infringements of Second Amendment rights. Read our take here.

Fighting for Parental Rights
|
Taking back our schools: Heritage and Heritage Action for America are committed to protecting parents’ rights, fighting back against dangerous left-wing agendas infiltrating schools, and partnering with parents and allies at the state and local level to advance much-needed education reforms.
Starting off with a bang: Heritage Action hosted its first-ever Save Our Schools Parental Rights Symposium on June 23 in Dana Point, California, to provide parents and activists with hands-on training to take back our schools, curriculum, and rights. More than 100 participants attended.
Why it’s needed: “The education system has become a tool for the far left to indoctrinate children with their radical political agenda. … (P)arents need to know how to most effectively fight for their rights,” says Jessica Anderson, executive director of Heritage Action, our independent partner organization.
Learn more: Read more about the event here. One of Heritage’s seven strategic priorities is to empower parents to make education choices. Read more about that here.

Heritage Sues Biden Admin. for Border Patrol Records
|
Taking legal action: Heritage’s Oversight Project is filing a lawsuit against the Biden administration for its politicized investigation into mounted Border Patrol agents near Del Rio, Texas. Find the lawsuit here.
Violation: The Oversight Project had submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for the release of all documents related to the investigation. The Department of Homeland Security failed to comply, prompting the suit.
Further concerns: “It’s a sad day when American citizens have to sue their own government for basic information,” says head of the Oversight Project Mike Howell.
Learn more: Read about their unlawful obstruction here.
