[1]Alessandra Biaggi - Democrat for Congress

Friends -

This is a long email about Friday’s Supreme Court decision, our fight to codify abortion rights, and why I’m running for Congress. Before you go on with your day, I hope you’ll take a moment to read it.

First, a bit of history:

When I challenged State Senator Jeff Klein in 2018, he had a long history of obstructing progress on abortion rights in New York. He and other corporate Democrats supported a Republican agenda in the Senate and blocked the laws and votes needed to codify legal abortion — despite running for reelection as a pro-choice Democrat year after year.

With Donald Trump in the White House following decades of Republican efforts to steal our judicial system, I knew I had to run and do everything I could to protect the right to abortion. So that’s what I did.

After we won, our movement passed the Reproductive Health Act in my first month in office, codying Roe and protecting abortion rights statewide.

This is the same kind of urgency that we need in Washington today. It’s one of the reasons why I’m running for Congress, and it’s why I need to ask:

Can you make a contribution to my people-powered, grassroots campaign today? Every donation will go toward defeating Sean Patrick Maloney and fighting for real progressive change in New York and across our entire country.

Here’s the truth, Joan: As a member of Democratic leadership, my current opponent Sean Patrick Maloney led the establishment’s 11th-hour rally against progressive champion Jessica Cisneros, helping Henry Cuellar — the most conservative, anti-choice Democrat in the House — win their primary in Texas.

My opponent’s actions beg a simple question: How can he ask New Yorkers to trust him on abortion or any other issue while propping up anti-choice, corporately-bought incumbents?

It’s time for a new generation of Democratic leaders who will stop at nothing to protect our rights and values — especially the right to an abortion.

What our country needs is not just fierce, independent fighters, but people who are unafraid to stand up to Republicans and corporate interests, and who are willing to challenge the status quo in order to protect our rights. If we want to get something different out of Washington, we need to send someone different to Washington.

The fact is that the best candidates to beat Republicans this November will be women who have fought and won reproductive rights, not corporate Democrats who cowered and let them be dismantled piece by piece.

Doing that is going to take a lot of resources, and we’re funding this campaign the right way — all people, no corporate PACs. That’s why I have to ask, especially ahead of this week’s critical FEC fundraising deadline:

Can you make a contribution to my people-powered, grassroots campaign for Congress today? Every donation will go toward defeating Sean Patrick Maloney and fighting for real progressive change in New York and across our entire country.

Thank you for being a part of this team. I know that so long as we stand together in solidarity and compassion for one another, we’re going to win this fight.
