As a doctor, I’ve spent my career helping people, and as a legislator who served alongside Laura Kelly, I know we did our best to ensure Kansans had access to good schools, healthcare, and jobs so they could live the lives they chose.

During my decade in the Capitol, I witnessed extremist politicians try to limit the rights and freedoms of women over and over. They proposed laws that would put women at risk of death and interfere in private, medical decisions – but we stopped them.

Now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade , they're trying to change the Kansas Constitution to give politicians more power for more mandates.

I opposed this same exact amendment in 2020. Republicans and Democrats alike knew that this amendment paved the way for regressive legislation with no exceptions for rape, incest, or to save the life of a mother.

If this extreme amendment passes in August, there's no doubt they will immediately vote to restrict all women’s reproductive health care rights in Kansas. So we have to both defeat their amendment and make sure Laura Kelly has the resources to keep Kansas moving forward, not backward.
