Hi John,
By now I’m sure you’ve heard of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the historic Roe v. Wade decision. Today, I wanted to share just what this disastrous ruling means.
Roe v. Wade not only ensured the constitutional right to abortion – it also guaranteed the privacy rights of American women and families all across the country.
That means that this ruling puts at risk the enumerated privacy rights of all Americans, and it opens the door to states rolling back a much broader range of rights that many Americans have taken for granted for a long time. Think about the right to have contraceptives and the right to marry the person that you want, among many others.
In the early 1990s, when I was in the Connecticut General Assembly, I was part of the bipartisan majority that codified Roe v. Wade, and that still is good law today.
There’s a lot of work to be done, but I can assure every eastern Connecticut resident that I will continue to stand up for privacy rights and for the rights of my constituents to make decisions like reproductive health care on their own without the government dictating the terms.
My opponent can’t say the same.
If you’re with me, I hope you’ll consider chipping in a few dollars to my campaign today to help us keep fighting for eastern Connecticut in Washington.
