John, here's the ugly truth about campaign fundraising:
Members of Congress are often told that they should spend up to five hours EACH DAY on "call time" — time solely dedicated to calling up mega-donors and corporate PACs to get big checks and ensure re-election. That's more than half of a regular workday!
But as the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and a leader in the fight for Medicare for All, climate resilience, humane immigration reform, and protecting and expanding our Democratic majorities in Congress — any minute I don’t spend on those priorities puts our ability to make real progress for the people at risk.
There’s a better way, and it starts with emails like this one. If one out of every four people reading this email chipped in $20.22, we could reach our FEC end-of-quarter goal of $55,000 in no time. Will you make a gift of $20.22 or $3 before the deadline at 11:59 pm on Thursday?
At a time when corporations and CEOs are raking in record profits and working people are being squeezed from all sides by the rising costs of gas, groceries, housing, and utilities, we must fight harder than ever to loosen the grip that special interests and PACs have on Washington.
The best way we can begin to do that is by rejecting corporate money. That’s why I don’t accept a dime in corporate PAC money. By living our values and building a people-first movement that is invested in this work, we can build a Congress that actually fights for the people, not corporations.
But first, we’ve got to fight like hell to protect our Democratic majority and get more progressives like Delia Ramirez, Robert Garcia, Summer Lee, Andrea Salinas, and so many more of the candidates I’ve endorsed to Congress.
Are you with us? Chip in $3, $20.22, or any amount toward our end-of-quarter goal right now to sustain the movement we’ve built the right way: with people power.
Thanks for giving what you can at this critical time. Any amount makes a big difference.
In solidarity,
Pramila
