Hi John.

I understand a lot of people are frustrated right now. Women’s rights are under attack after the Supreme Court’s recent decision, and I know folks are upset about political games in Washington these days.

It may not always be easy, but I am committed to doing everything I can to move our country forward. No matter what, my job is to serve every person and corner of our community – regardless of party.

So today, I wanted to share some additional news on how my team and I are continuing to make a difference for everyone in our community. I know Republicans and Democrats can have good ideas – whether that’s rebuilding infrastructure or cutting wasteful spending. We can have honest disagreements, but we’re all Americans first. We should always try to find common ground whenever we can.

Here’s the latest:

Lowering Costs at the Gas Pump

I know lots of folks are struggling with gas prices these days. I understand how worrying that can be. I saw how hard my mom had to work to raise my brothers and me on her own. We have to get people relief now.

That’s why I’ve introduced a bill to temporarily suspend the federal gas tax, while still maintaining our commitment to infrastructure repairs and long-term inflation solutions. And last week, the President announced his support for suspending the gas tax too.

I’m urging my colleagues to support my legislation and suspend the federal gas tax throughout the end of the year.

My preference would have been to see the President take this step sooner. I’ve been hearing from Kansans who are feeling the squeeze of high gas prices for months. It’s clear that we have to act.

That's why I’m also not stopping with suspending the gas tax alone. Here are just some of the other steps I’m also taking to lower gas prices and address inflation:

I’ve called on the President to help reopen closed oil refineries. We have unused capacity and we have to increase the supply of gas to lower prices without sacrificing our commitment to addressing climate change.

I’m pleased to share that I successfully pushed the IRS to increase a tax break for small business owners who rely on a vehicle for their business.

I also voted to crack down on price gouging by big oil and gas companies. You shouldn’t have to keep paying more and more as they make record profits.

We also need long-term energy and inflation solutions. That includes standing up to China and strengthening U.S. supply chains, boosting American manufacturing, and reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

As I keep pushing for progress, please know that we are always here to connect you with any resources that we can.

Passing a Bipartisan Bill to Tackle the Addiction and Mental Health Crisis

I’m pleased to share that the House has passed a bipartisan bill that I helped introduce – the REACHING Improved Mental Health Outcomes for Patients Act.

I was honored to help move this bill forward along with my Republican colleagues Representatives Morgan Griffith from Virginia and Claudia Tenney from New York.

This week I was glad to check-in with local experts ahead of the vote on our bipartisan bill.

This bill would reauthorize eight proven, effective mental health initiatives – ensuring they can continue to operate and adapt to modern needs.

For instance, our bill will help school personnel, first responders, and veterans better recognize the signs and symptoms of mental disorders. It’ll also help improve suicide intervention and prevention strategies, research new approaches to address substance abuse, better integrate mental health services into primary health care, and much more.

Now is the time to move forward. I’m pleased to share our bill passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, and I’ll keep pushing until it’s enacted into law.

It is an honor to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives. It may not always be easy, but I know Republicans and Democrats can find common ground. I’ll always do what I can to help all Kansans move forward together.

Please always feel free to contact me or ask a question.

My warmest regards,
