The Supreme Court decision was a disgrace, and people will lose their lives because of this horrific decision.

As the father of two daughters, it’s heartbreaking to imagine that for the first time in their life they’re posed to have fewer reproductive rights than generations before them.

I refuse to let that stand. As governor, I will do everything in my power to further enshrine the spirit of Roe into our state Constitution, remove barriers to care, and make sure Maryland welcomes and protects all who come here seeking care.

I’m proud to have spent decades defending the fundamental right to abortion.

I had the honor to be among the first to implement and enforce the law to prosecute anti-abortion extremists when I served as a civil rights prosecutor.

Years later, when I led the Civil Rights Division for President Obama, I made it a priority to step up our game and protect the right to access and provide reproductive health services without interference.

I have worked closely throughout my career to give meaning to these rights. And that’s what I’ll continue to do as governor.

Abortion and reproductive freedoms are fundamental freedoms—and they must always be.

Because we won't go back.
