Folks,

With Friday's Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade , a trigger law has gone into effect in Arkansas that now bans abortions statewide. Performing abortions is now a punishable felony in Arkansas, a move both our state’s governor and attorney general were proud to announce.

As a result, abortion services have been paused in Arkansas, and clinics have been closed for the time being. Allow me to place special emphasis on the words pause and for the time being , because despite how bleak things appear at the moment, we’re just a few months away from being able to do something about all of this — locally, at the ballot box.

As both a minister and a scientist, I’ve spent a considerable amount of time thinking over this matter and discussing it at-length with my loved ones. I’m disheartened by the Supreme Court’s decision to needlessly put the healthcare of millions of Americans in jeopardy, and I’m repulsed by the governor and attorney general’s excitement to further weaponize our law enforcement against our most vulnerable citizens. As the next governor of Arkansas, I will do everything in my power to put an immediate end to this trigger law and resume abortion services for Arkansans. I repeat: These decisions should be left in the hands of families and their doctors — not the government, not politicians, and certainly not the courts.

While November’s election seems distant right now, make no mistake it’ll be here before we know it, and our best shot at restoring reproductive justice in the state of Arkansas is by winning this race. Today’s Supreme Court decision was both heavy and upsetting, but this isn’t the end of the story. Through Faith, Hope, and Hard Work, I believe we can chart a new course for Arkansas.

Before you go, if you’re able, please consider making a donation to the Arkansas Abortion Support Network right away — they’re doing hard yet necessary work right now, and every dollar they receive will make a real difference in the lives of Arkansans across the state. [[link removed]]
