Hi John – I hate to bother you over the weekend, but I wanted you to hear directly from me on the attacks national Republicans are launching against me. Will you give me a second to set the record straight?

I didn’t serve 20 years in the Navy to watch our Constitution get trampled. I served because freedom isn't always a guarantee. That includes the freedom to live in a democracy, and to have control over our own lives and bodies. If Republicans drag my name through the mud because of that, then so be it.

And now, the Supreme Court is threatening to overturn our fundamental rights of privacy, contraception, and marriage equality. We're on dangerous and uncertain ground. That's why I'm going to stand up for what's right, no matter the cost.
