Dear Revealer,

This #GivingTuesday, I want to recognize our fearless journalists. These extraordinary people dedicate themselves to digging up facts that many would prefer remain buried, lifting the voices of the most vulnerable and stopping the most powerful in their tracks. I need you to join us today so they can keep doing what they do best.

Their investigations have:

  • Uncovered horrifying conditions children faced after being separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. And our 2018 coverage of this issue has continued to spark positive impact. A federal judge ordered Shiloh Treatment Center in Texas to stop drugging children without consent and ordered all children removed from the center. A defense contractor, MVM Inc., also stopped using an Arizona office building to hold children overnight.

  • Exposed rampant wage theft in the caregiving industry. Since bringing these reports of worker abuse to light, state and federal officials have begun calling for reforms to protect these workers.

  • Revealed how racial disparities in home loans fuel the nation’s wealth gap. This year,  national banks have opened branches in underserved neighborhoods. This comes after being cited in our 2018 story detailing racial disparities in home lending. Lawmakers across the country have launched investigations into racial discrimination in home lending.

Today, I am asking you to donate so that our reporters can bring you deeply reported, fact-based stories that make an impact. We have big plans for next year – but we can’t do it without you. Will you stand up for the facts and support our work today?

Sincerely,

Christa Scharfenberg
CEO

And if you donate by or before Dec. 31, we have great news — your gift will be doubled! We are participating in NewsMatch, a national matching campaign to support nonprofit journalism, along with more than 150 newsrooms across the country. This year's campaign runs from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, 2019.
