Tuesday, June 21, 2022: Today is the first day of Summer. While Washington, DC has all four seasons, I tell people that in South Georgia we have two seasons- hot and hotter. My day today begins with a phone interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution in which we discuss the Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC) in Savannah that was set to be closed under President Biden’s proposed budget. Due to the bipartisan efforts of the Georgia congressional delegation, we have been able to get funding for the facility added back into the budget by the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee. While we still have a long way to go in the process, we are very confident that, through continued efforts, we can keep the Savannah CRTC open. Afterwards, I head to downtown Savannah where I visit with a constituent before heading to the airport for my return flight to Washington. Once back in my office, I meet with this year’s winner of the Congressional Art Competition from our district, Amy Oh, a recent graduate of Savannah Arts Academy. This competition, sponsored by the Congressional Institute, recognizes and encourages artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Afterwards, I have a virtual interview with WSAV-TV in Savannah to discuss the CRTC situation before having a virtual interview with Fox28 in Savannah to again discuss the CRTC.
