Dear Supporter,
I am excited to share with you that today I pledged and declared my candidacy for the Democratic Party nomination to unseat Republican Thom Tillis as the state's junior United States Senator. When elected, I will be North Carolina's first African American U.S. Senator, and only the third African American woman ever to serve in that body.
We can stop the slide of our country into darkness and begin restoring a healthy, decent world but only if Democrats field candidates next November who can inspire massive voter turnout among the young, the marginalized, people of color, women, and the rural poor. I believe I am called to be that candidate for the United States Senate.
Every poll of this race has found me to be the frontrunner, beating Tillis by wider margins than any other likely Democratic challenger.
You already know me as a proud native North Carolinian and resident of Henrico who has served for three terms in the state's General Assembly; as a former member of the Northampton County Board of Education; as former chair of the Northampton County Democratic Party; as an ordained clergywomen; as a graduate of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and North Carolina A&T State University; as a professional with careers at Boeing, the US Patent and Trademark Office, and, today, as a science and mathematics educator who is a teacher of teachers.
Now is the time to spread the word to make sure that all North Carolinians have the opportunity to get to know me as you all know me. I am One of US for ALL of US and I truly appreciate your support of my candidacy! I am ready to do the work of the people, with the people, and for the people of North Carolina as your next United States Senator. I am IN IT to WIN IT!
