John: The Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade. After nearly 50 years of protection, the right to an abortion is no longer guaranteed in America.
For decades, Americans felt assured that their reproductive rights were protected. Roe was viewed by the public (and supposedly the courts) as settled and secure.
But after the Supreme Court's disastrous decision, people have ALREADY lost their right to choose an abortion in more than a dozen states, including Missouri, because of trigger laws that went into effect immediately. In Missouri, we are dealing with a total ban – women won’t even be able to get an abortion in instances of rape or incest.
Now, this is only the beginning: Partisan extremists are already moving to tighten abortion restrictions and ban abortion in more states. Far-right senators are even discussing a national ban.
But this isn't over yet! We cannot give up. We are in the majority, and we must continue to speak out and demand our reproductive freedoms. Trudy Busch Valentine is running to be a voice for safe abortion access in the Senate, and she'll work her heart out to codify Roe v. Wade into law – but to win on Election Day, she needs you with her.
Please, before this live opinion poll closes at 11:59 p.m. tonight, will you respond to make your voice heard for safe abortion access by telling Congress to take action? We need another 59 people to stand with Trudy tonight, so we're really counting on your response.
