Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update |
Good Afternoon,
This week, I was back in Washington, D.C. for a series of votes in the U.S. House of Representatives! I was proud to witness Congresswoman Mayra Flores (R-TX-34), the newest Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, being sworn in! She is the first Mexican-born woman elected to Congress. I am excited to work with her!
I spoke at a roundtable with House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Banks, and female athletes to fight back against the Biden Administration’s efforts to undermine women’s athletic opportunities and eliminate fair competition in women’s sports.
I also attended a press conference with House Republicans to celebrate the monumental U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson that defends LIFE! I will continue to fight alongside my colleagues for unborn babies everywhere!
It was a pleasure to meet with Baker Commodities to discuss sustainable ways to support the food production and restaurant industries. We also discussed the impact of labor shortages, including the shortage of truck drivers.
It was a pleasure to meet with the National Association of Convenience Stores to discuss issues affecting convenience stores in Arizona and across America.
I had a wonderful time meeting with the American Physical Therapy Association! We discussed the different issues facing physical therapists across our nation.

Statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Ruling
On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court released its decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. My full statement on this decision can be found below:
“The U.S. Supreme Court made the right decision on Dobbs. The abortion debate will finally be returned to the people through their elected representatives. The Court made it clear that there is no Constitutional right to an abortion and agreed with Constitutional scholars on both sides of the debate that Roe v. Wade was originally decided on shaky legal grounds.
Now, more than ever, it is time for us to unite to support vulnerable women and their unborn babies, and it is time for Republicans and Democrats alike to reject violence and intimidation.”

Statement on House Passage of Gun Control Legislation
The House's gun control bill is just another way for Democrats to take away your Second Amendment rights. My full statement on the passage of this legislation can be found below:
"It is imperative that we reduce violence without taking away law abiding citizens' constitutional rights. Keeping our children safe in schools is a bipartisan priority. That is why this week, I supported bipartisan legislation, H.R. 7666, that provides increased funding for mental health and suicide prevention in our schools and local communities. It is also the reason why I cosponsored H.R. 7966, the Secure Every School and Protect our Nation's Children Act, which provides funds to schools for more resource officers, mental health counselors, and school security.
Today, however, I voted against the Democrats’ gun control bill that strips law abiding Americans of their due process and Second Amendment rights. If we truly want to make our schools safe, we need to treat the cause, not take away Americans’ constitutional rights."

Lesko Introduces Legislation to Hold Big Tech Accountable for Political Bias
House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA-23), Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA-01), Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21), Congressman Tom Emmer (R-MN-06), Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-GA-03), Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA-05), and Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL-12) joined me in introducing legislation to hold Big Tech companies accountable for silencing conservative voices through biased algorithms that mark political emails as spam.

Casework Highlight
A constituent contacted our office because his retirement pay from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) was not being paid in full. He made many attempts to have OPM correct the issue, but he was not successful. Our office reached out to OPM, which fixed the pay error, and the constituent is now receiving the correct benefits he earned.

Encouraging Story
I am pleased to share this story about Isaiah Cosme, a Canyon View High School student in Waddell, AZ, who overcame much adversity to graduate. Isaiah is a survivor of Shaken Baby Syndrome. He was told that he would not walk, talk, or live for very long. Isaiah defied all odds by surviving Shaken Baby Syndrome through motor development and the ability to walk and talk.
