In just a moment, we are going to ask you to make a contribution to Gavin Newsom’s ballot measure committee to help pass a constitutional amendment in California that will further protect a woman’s right to access an abortion in California.

Please let us explain why this request — especially today — is so important.

First, let us say this: Abortion is legal in California, and it will remain that way.

Further, Governor Newsom signed a bill yesterday that makes California a safe haven for women across the nation, and we will NOT cooperate with any states attempting to prosecute women or doctors for receiving or providing reproductive care.

Now about this constitutional amendment...

If it passes in November, it will add the right to access an abortion to our state constitution, protecting the rights of women for this generation and generations that follow.

It would mean no matter what happens electorally in our state, in 2022 or any elections after, the right to choose will be enshrined in our state constitution and could not be taken away.

It will also provide a measure of protection from far-right courts and Republican legislators in Washington, D.C.

So we are going to work hard to pass this amendment, but it is not guaranteed. Nothing is guaranteed — yesterday’s opinion shows us that. But we cannot do it alone. So please:
