Help us prepare for the next fair map fight >>

Friend -- After yesterday's court decision, New York Times columnist David Leonhardt summed up our feelings about the new North Carolina congressional map.

"The biggest reason for optimism -- if you believe that election results should reflect voters' will -- is that this case is part of a growing movement against gerrymandering... But it's not the end of the story."

We are leading that movement, friend. Help us prepare for the next chapter in the fight for fair maps.

Here's the good news: the legislature redrew the congressional map after the court ruled the map was an illegal gerrymander. The bad news? The legislators drew another unfair map, albeit less unfair than the original.

This was an important step forward in the fight for fair maps. The congressional map that North Carolinians will use in 2020 is the fairest map they've seen in the past decade. Non-partisan analysts believe this new congressional map will likely yield 8 seats for Republicans and 5 for Democrats -- a more fair reflection of North Carolina voters than the previous 10-3 split.

Our grassroots movement prevented conservatives from locking in yet another lopsided 10-3 advantage. More grassroots donations meant a stronger on-the-ground advocacy effort. And that strong local organizing -- calls to elected officials, local voters testifying at hearings -- is exactly why the new map is better than the old map.

The progress our team made in North Carolina was only possible because we had an influx of donations from our grassroots supporters. Can you help us prepare for the next fair map fight?
