Yesterday we received the devastating news that the Supreme Court is overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, denying women the right to an abortion at the federal level. While I am devastated and scared about what this will mean for thousands of women across the nation, as the Executive Director of the Maryland Women’s Law Center and the former Board President of Planned Parenthood Maryland, I know exactly what next steps we need to take in Maryland.

We must band together to fight like hell for reproductive freedoms to be preserved and protected as the law of the land. And now more than ever, it is critically important we elect pro-choice Democratic governors who will codify the right to an abortion in the state constitution and provide access to women across the country who are deterred from obtaining an abortion by restrictive GOP trigger laws.

One of the best ways you can help fight back against the horrendous news out of the Supreme Court this morning is to support Democrats running for statewide office who will protect reproductive rights at all costs. Will you stand with John and I by signing on to protect abortion rights today?

I’ve spent my entire career fighting on behalf of women’s rights to reproductive healthcare and freedom of choice. And, it’s not lost on me the disparate impact this regressive decision will have on low-income women, women of color, and survivors of sexual violence. If elected as Lieutenant Governor, enshrining the right to an abortion in our state constitution will be a top priority.

Yesterday, John and I joined Pro-Choice Maryland Action for a rally against the misguided and disastrous Supreme Court decision. In a King-Siri administration, that commitment to advocacy and action on behalf of human rights everywhere will never waver. If you can, consider chipping in to our campaign to make Maryland a national haven for reproductive healthcare and an example of progressive leadership in the face of a crisis.
