The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade in a historic win for the unborn, officially ending the constitutional protection to an abortion across the United States.
The ruling comes from the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, which came about when Mississippi banned abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
A lower court struck down the state's ban, and Mississippi proceeded to challenge the decision to the Supreme Court, which resulted in the nation's highest court hearing arguments in December 2021.
After many weeks of waiting after the leaked draft opinion, the ruling has finally been publicized.
Each state will now have the authority to make all of its abortion rights decisions without intervention from the Supreme Court. The ruling overturns the almost 50-year precedent when the all-male court ruled to protect abortion rights in the Roe v. Wade case.
