Yesterday, the Supreme Court officially overturned Roe v. Wade and set our fundamental rights back by half a century. They’ve sided with the far right and Republicans who care more about enacting their radical agenda than they do about serving the people they represent.

Let’s be clear: The majority of Americans believe that women should be able to make our own medical decisions about our own bodies.

John, politicians have no place making personal medical decisions for us. Abortion bans do not end abortion. Bodily autonomy is a fundamental human right. And it’s up to us, now, to fight for it at the ballot box.

I know Roy will never stop fighting to protect access to essential reproductive health care — and Republicans in Raleigh know it too. They’ve admitted that legislation banning abortion would fail thanks to Roy’s veto power.

John, the right to decide our reproductive futures has been a cornerstone of American life for nearly 50 years. Now, women across the country have lost the freedom that so many fought for so long to secure.

22 states have laws on the books to ban all, or almost all, abortion care now that Roe has fallen. Another four are likely to enact bans. More than half of this country has become completely hostile to reproductive rights in the course of the last few hours.

Democratic governors are the last line of defense against these types of extreme bills, but I need enough Democrats with me in the legislature to make sure we can block anti-choice GOP bills.

What it comes down to is this: Reproductive rights are fundamental, and we will not go back.
