John,
When I read the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade yesterday, I was furious (I'm still furious, for the record). I actually screamed out loud.
And I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. Even though we knew this was coming -- that the extremist right has been laying the groundwork for this decision for years -- it’s still mind-blowing that six Judges are saying we must compromise our right to choose, our right to privacy and our right to bodily autonomy.
But here’s the thing: LGBTQ Victory Fund has never compromised on equality. And we sure as hell aren’t going to start now.
What we do is this: we will elect pro-choice LGBTQ candidates, no if ands or buts about it. No matter what the Supreme Court says, we’re going to keep electing them. Will you pitch in to help LGBTQ Victory Fund elect more strong LGBTQ champions of equality and reproductive rights?
Why? Because we believe that equality means equality. That you have the right to marry and love who you want. You have the right to choose what’s best for your body and receive gender-affirming healthcare. You have the absolute right to be you.
To put it simply, supporting candidates who don’t believe in reproductive rights would be antithetical to our mission of achieving equality for LGBTQ Americans.
Anti-choice laws harm our community. They cut off health options for lesbians, bi and queer people, trans women, trans men, and nonbinary people -- causing suffering, injury, and even death. So-called “personhood” laws, which confer rights to fetuses and even fertilized eggs, would prohibit anyone from having a child using IVF or surrogacy. And they legally dismantle the right to privacy – the basis for so many pro-LGBTQ laws – and the right to bodily autonomy. And the Court has already said cases preserving those rights must be reconsidered!
So it will be a cold day in hell before we support any candidate who is anti-choice.
John, we’re spitting mad. If you are, too -- and you want to elect more pro-choice LGBTQ candidates to office -- will you pitch in now to support LGBTQ Victory Fund’s critical work?
Stay angry,
Sarah LeDonne
