Hi friend,

I wanted to reach out before tomorrow to wish you a happy Pride!

Before the march, let's remember why it happens: the work of delivering true and full equality for LGBTQ+ people is far from over. The Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday, which clears the path for this Court to overturn marriage equality, makes that alarmingly clear.

The riot that took place at Stonewall in 1969 lit a match and we cannot let conservative forces extinguish it.

In the 53 years since that night in Greenwich Village, and in the 52 since New York’s first gay pride parade, we’ve seen our state lead the way in delivering progress for LGBTQ+ people. New York stands as a beacon of hope for the LGBTQ+ community far and wide.

I am proud to serve our state and our LGBTQ+ community. But I understand that I do not walk in the shoes of LGBTQ+ New Yorkers. And that in order to serve, I must listen and learn. In order to lead, I must listen and learn. I know there is more work to be done in our state, especially as so many politicians continue to spread hate across the country targeting LGBTQ+ Americans. Nearly 240 hateful bills targeting this community have been introduced in 2022 alone, and I will continue to do everything in my power to combat these hateful forces here in New York.

During my time in Congress I proudly voted to pass the Equality Act – a bill that ensures that all LGBTQ+ Americans are granted the full protections guaranteed by federal civil rights law. It has always been my mission to stand up for the rights of others by being an unwavering ally in the fight for equal rights and I promise to continue to do the same as Lt. Governor.

We have more work to do. As long as we center our work with love, we can and will make New York and our country a safer and freer place for the LGBTQ+ community.

With love,

Antonio
