Roe v. Wade As a pro-life American, I have long called for overturning Roe v. Wade—decision in which the judiciary made the law rather than interpreting the laws written by our elected representatives. With Roe overturned, abortion issues are now in the hands of the people, just as intended in the framework outlined in our Constitution. This allows for the democratic process and saves the lives of many. The overturning of Roe will reestablish a proper reading of the Constitution, along with allowing Arkansas’ democratically approved pro-life law to come into effect. Lives have and will be saved with this decision. We owe a debt of gratitude to both the Justices and their families who have continued to work steadfast in the face of ridicule and threats from pro-abortion extremists. Without them, this would not be possible, and they will be remembered for years to come. As we move forward, we will continue the battle for the hearts and minds of the American people. We must continue to protect the rights of these unborn children in every state and protect vulnerable mothers from the callousness and greed of the abortion industry. I will continue to protect and listen to my constituents so that we may save the lives of those most vulnerable. Keeping Kids Fed Act This week, we also voted on legislation that addresses the school meals cliff by increasing reimbursement rates and no-cost flexibilities for the 2022-2023 school year to transition into regular school meal operations. The Keeping Kids Fed Act will wind down waivers granted at the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic while ensuring that schools are able to continue school lunch programs through the summer as they face rising inflation and supply chain issues. This bill is also fully offset by unused COVID-19 and appropriations funding. Ensuring our children have access to basic nutrition is, thankfully, a bipartisan issue and I’m proud to say that the bill passed the House with overwhelming support. Concurring in the Senate Amendment to the House Amendment to S. 2938 – Senate Gun Control Act - No Includes funding for red-flag programs that can confiscate an individual’s firearms for months at a time without the accused having to opportunity to defend themselves. Creates more roadblocks for 18-20 year-olds from exercising their constitutional right to bear arms. S. 2089 - Keep Kids Fed Act - Yea Increases reimbursement rates and no-cost flexibilities for the 2022-2023 school year to address the rising food costs and supply chain issues schools are facing. Winds down waivers granted at the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic and transitions into more regular school lunch programs. Fully offset by unused COVID-19 and appropriations funding. H.R. 5407 - Enhancing Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Through Campus Planning Act - Yea Amends the Higher Education Act to direct the Secretary of Education to encourage colleges and universities to establish mental health and suicide prevention plans on campus. Ensures that these plans comply with strategies recommended by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Suicide Prevention Resource Center, specifically its nine-part Comprehensive Approach to Suicide Prevention. Agri-Pulse Crawford calls for commodity program tweaks in upcoming Farm Bill Speaking on Agri-Pulse Newsmakers, Rep. Rick Crawford, R- Ark., said inflation and commodity prices have affected profit margins for farmers. “For example, in the Price Loss Coverage program, we're dealing with a cost model that reflects 2012 production costs; it wasn't indexed,” Crawford said. “So, therefore now in 2022, 10 years later, we're behind the eight ball on those programs, and so I think you're going to have to bring that into current levels and then index it.” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette U.S. House OKs bill aimed at mental health, drug use; opioid provision by Hill in it U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford of Jonesboro, in a written statement, said the legislation "is vital at getting the resources needed to those who suffer from mental health issues and substance abuse disorders." Rep.
