Plus: Fact-Checking 5 Biden Claims on Dobbs Ruling
June 25 2022
Good morning from Washington, where the Supreme Court delighted pro-life Americans and shocked pro-choice activists yesterday by overruling its 49-year-old decision legalizing abortion across the nation. Sarah Parshall Perry and Tom Jipping sum up what the ruling says and does. On a special edition of the podcast, a woman who went through an abortion tells why she’s happy with the historic decision. Eighty years ago today, Maj. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, a future president, takes command of U.S. forces in Europe as the Allies gear up to defeat Nazi Germany.
The Supreme Court corrected a grave constitutional error by overruling not just Roe, but also Planned Parenthood v. Casey, both of which created a “right” to abortion.
"The Supreme Court's decision in the Dobbs case, reversing Roe v. Wade, is nothing short of a massive victory for life, and it will save the lives of millions of innocent babies," says Sen. Ted Cruz.
“I remember them telling me it was all going to be over … all going to be better,” recalls Cathy Harris. “I remember walking out of that abortion clinic realizing that that was a lie.”
How did the justices reach their decision? What is its historic significance? And what comes next? Heritage Foundation legal scholar Tom Jipping answers these questions and more.
