Today is a great day. The Supreme Court issued a historic decision to overturn Roe v. Wade nearly 50 years after the Supreme Court enshrined the right to abortion in our Constitution. No longer. Finally, the most vulnerable in our society will finally be protected.
This is a massive victory for the unborn, but also for state rights and the Constitution.
Roe v. Wade was a cockamamie decision that had no basis in our Constitution. It allowed unelected judges to make law that affected every single person in all fifty states. Today’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization returns the right to make laws to the people and their elected representatives.
It is my belief that our nation was founded on the most basic rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. But you can’t have liberty and the pursuit of happiness if you don’t have life. Life is precious. No matter who you are, or where you come from, or what you stand for, this fundamental value must be protected.
The liberals are raging mad and accusing the Supreme Court of all kinds of nefarious things. They will surely try to revive packing the court and getting rid of the filibuster. The weeks and months — even years — ahead will be filled with important battles. But none of that takes away from the fact that something historic and wonderful happened today.
Today is a great day.
