The Supreme Court just ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade.

It is the terrifying and dangerous moment that so many of us have warned was coming, and once again, Washington is failing to protect our rights. Too many Senators lack the courage to fight for our rights. So our only option, if we are going to codify the right to reproductive freedom for every woman in this country, is to mobilize in the most competitive races where we expand our Senate majority.

North Carolina is one of our best chances to do that, and I promise that if you help me flip this seat, I will not hesitate to be the 51st vote to end the filibuster and codify abortion rights into law.

As former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, I want to be 100% clear: Reproductive freedom is a constitutional right.

This decision is exactly what extreme right-wing politicians like my opponent Ted Budd fought for. Next on their list is a full federal ban on abortion. Ted Budd wants a total ban on abortion without exceptions. And it will not stop there. This decision also lays the groundwork for attacks on LGBTQ+ rights from the Supreme Court.

I know this is a devastating moment. I share your anger, fear, and frustration, but I know that we cannot give in to defeat. We cannot back down. With our rights at stake, we must elect Senators who will expand our majority and protect our rights – and that is exactly the opportunity we have in North Carolina.
