The Supreme Court has released their devastating ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. They’ve overturned Roe and Casey, rejected 50 years of legal precedent – and eliminated the constitutional right to an abortion.
This is a painful day and I’m feeling a lot of different emotions right now: sadness, frustration, anger for the 65 million women in our country who will lose access to abortion as state governments pass extreme bans and restrictions.
Here in Massachusetts, know this: abortion is still legal. At this turning point in our history, we will open our arms to those who will inevitably come to our state seeking help.
We will step up.
We will remain a beacon of hope where everyone can access the care they deserve and be met with compassion and respect.
And we will take on these challenges the same way we always do – together.
Today was a gut punch, but keep the faith. Abortion is on the ballot. Vote, support abortion funds, and demand action from Congress to codify abortion rights.
For right now, take care of yourself, take care of each other – and when you’re ready to take action, I’ll be right there with you.
Thank you for all you do,
Maura
