Accessibility and transparency drive my work in Congress. Hearing from Iowans is what guides my legislative work in Congress. I bring the stories I hear at my town halls and the feedback I receive across the district with me to Washington to fight for Iowans’ priorities.

Last week, I wrapped up my second 20-county tour of the year—my sixth since taking office. During this round of my 20-county tour, I had the opportunity to visit child care centers, manufacturers, and small businesses, and completed a town hall meeting in every county of the district.

Whether it’s $5 dollar gas in a rural area, a family getting a warning letter from their utility company that they should expect energy blackouts this summer, a manufacturer needing more workers, or a working mom trying to figure out how she’s going to afford groceries for her kids when everything is more expensive—I continue to witness how the Biden Administration’s policies are hurting Iowans. I will continue to hear from you and continue to propose real solutions to the challenges that Iowans are dealing with every single day. 

As part of my effort to be accessible and transparent, next week I will be hosting a telephone town hall to answer your questions, hear your stories, and provide an update on my work in Congress. This will be my tenth virtual town hall event. Whether we agree or disagree, you will always know where I stand on issues that matter to you. I hope you can join me!

Pro-Life Victory
Today, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. This decision will save countless lives. I will continue to champion pro-life policies in Congress: ensuring taxpayer dollars never fund abortion, improving maternal health care access for expecting moms and their babies, supporting pregnant women on college campuses, and ending stillbirths. Our work to protect life will continue. 
My Bipartisan Work to Prevent Drug Overdoses
This week, the House Appropriations Committee unanimously adopted my bipartisan proposal to combat fentanyl trafficking. According to the CDC, fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18 to 49. More than 100,000 people are dying per year from drug and fentanyl overdoses.

That's why I offered an amendment that will increase coordination between the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and provide more resources to combat the illicit importation of opioids, including fentanyl, through the Southern Border and international mail facilities. I am glad this amendment was adopted with bipartisan support, and I will continue working across the aisle to prevent the flow of illicit and deadly drugs into our communities.
Bipartisan Legislation to Bolster Children's Mental Health Access Passes House
This week, the House passed H.R. 7666, the Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act, a bipartisan package to address mental health resources for children and teenagers that included bipartisan legislation I co-led, the KIDS CARE Act, to expand access to mental health care services in schools.

Children in this country have been asked to deal with more than they can bear over the past few years. That's why I helped introduce the bipartisan KIDS CARE Act to help expand access to behavioral and mental health services in schools. I'm proud this legislation, as well as other bipartisan initiatives to combat the overdose crisis and prevent youth suicide, passed the House this week. I will continue working in a bipartisan way to increase access to mental health resources, especially for our children.

POLL: Summer Energy Blackouts
I’ve heard from Iowans who are concerned about experiencing energy blackouts this summer. The heightened likelihood of rolling blackouts—in Iowa and across the US—is due to the Biden Administration thoughtlessly shutting down American energy sources that we need to keep the air conditioning going and the lights on at home.

Iowans shouldn’t have to go without power this summer because of the Biden Administration’s reckless policies. That’s why I’ve called on the Administration to present a plan to prevent rolling blackouts and reverse course on their anti-American energy agenda that will leave Iowans without power this summer. We need to restart the Keystone XL pipeline, dramatically ramp up domestic oil production, and allow higher blends of ethanol in our transportation fuel.

Community Highlights
My team attended the Women's Veterans Day Dinner and Celebration in Waterloo last night! This was an amazing event for female veterans to connect and share more about their experiences serving our country. We are so grateful for all who have served!
This week, my team attended the ribbon cutting of the newly renovated VA Community Resource and Referral Center in Cedar Rapids. This center will provide shelter, food, and medical care for homeless veterans in our area.
