Dear Community,
Today we mourn the work of countless individuals who fought to protect birthing people’s federal rights. Moments like these are reminders of the prevalent injustice that continues to roam the halls of our “justice system.” Today we ask all our comrades to hold space for one another, to remember the moments we stood up in the face of despair, and to honor the work of our ancestors by continuing to organize in unity.
Our work at DCJWJ is centered in community and we stand with all who are affected by the Supreme Court opinions released today, and know that as a community we have each other to lean on.
We know many of you are already out there speaking up for the right to access a safe, local, legal abortion. We urge you to join Harriet’s Wildest Dreams, and join the DC community at the SCOTUS this evening.
As DC JWJ, and part of Jobs with Justice, we condemn the attacks on birthing folk’s bodies. Read Erica Smiley's statement here. We are joining a call to action for all government leaders and workers in every place of our nation to work together to protect women’s rights and access to healthcare.
SCOTUS’ painful decisions this week control our bodies, diminish EPA’s influence over the fight to protect our mother earth under the Clean Air Act, and strip states from their power to be able to develop stronger protections to restrict open-carry laws. The consequences of these decisions means attacks on working people and their families.
Let’s use this moment, this righteous rage, and urgency to mark the beginning of a tenacious fight to regain constitutional rights, to right the wrongs. Our amazing members of the Jobs with Justice network and other leaders are continuing the fight.
We won’t stop until we all win.
En la lucha,
