Roe v. Wade Overturned
As many of you have already heard, the Supreme Court of the United States released a 6-3 ruling today which struck down Roe v. Wade. For nearly five decades, Roe v. Wade held that abortion was a constitutional right which meant that legal abortion was the law of the land. However, today?s decision by the Supreme Court unequivocally stated that no such right to an abortion exists in the Constitution of the United States.
As a pro-life legislator who believes in the sanctity of life, I am so excited to see the end of Roe v. Wade. My full statement about the Supreme Court?s ruling is below:
?The United States Supreme Court?s 6-3 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is wonderful news. With their historic ruling, our nation?s highest court clearly rejected the idea that abortion is a right. This amazing pro-life victory will save lives, protect unborn children, and serve as a beacon for the values that built America.
When our nation was founded nearly 250 years ago, our Founding Fathers recognized that our Creator endowed us with the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The fundamental nature of our right to life has always been a part of the United States, and I am glad the Supreme Court has affirmed this with their decision.
We should celebrate this day and prepare for the mission in front of us. As a result of the 6-3 ruling, major decisions about the sanctity of life will now be made by legislatures across the country. Now is the time to redouble our efforts and make sure that we defend the unborn here in Minnesota and in all 50 states.?
New Laws Take Effect July 1st
Whenever a legislative session ends there are always new laws that go into effect. As such, I wanted to take some time and let you know about the laws that will be taking effect here in Minnesota on July 1st:
- Drought relief, agriculture, and broadband efforts in the state got a funding boost of $50.9 million in the 2022-23 biennium
- The Agriculture Department can provide farm down payment assistance grants of up to $15,000 per eligible farmer
- Maximum income limit for school board members raised from $8,000 to $20,000
- $25 million appropriated for ALS research and support
