Dear Friends:

I am compelled to write you again in the wake of the Supreme Court decision today.

Today, the Supreme Court ruled to effectively allow states to ban abortion, overturning Roe vs Wade and a half century of precedent that a woman should make decisions about her own body and well-being without interference from the State. Yesterday, the Supreme Court overturned a century of precedent in New York State’s ability to regulate gun ownership.

Experience and all objective evidence show that banning abortion doesn't stop abortion, it only stops safe abortion. This decision directly and meaningfully endangers a woman’s health and well-being. This is why an overwhelming majority of Americans support access to legal and safe abortion.

An overwhelming majority of Americans also support common sense gun reform, but the Republican Party has successfully manipulated our laws and judicial nominating process to achieve this unjust and undemocratic, partisan court.  This partisan packed Supreme Court is more concerned about promoting an extremist, conservative ideology than representing the actual will of the American people.

Many of us are horrified – we are united in our complaints - but must be united in action as well. We clearly cannot rely on our courts to represent the overwhelming will of our majority, only Congress can fix this problem now.  As your next congressman, I am committed to actually passing legislation that would protect the health and safety of our families and to protect a woman’s right to choose.
