EXPANDING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR OUR FAMILIES AND VETERANS

Yesterday, I voted for the Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act of 2022. Our families, veterans, and communities deserve quality healthcare.

This legislation includes an amendment I introduced that requires the Behavioral Health Crisis Coordinating Office - whose creation is authorized as part of this comprehensive package - to include the Veterans Crisis Line as an entity to provide rapid, post-crisis follow-up care to veterans who need it.

Mental health should be treated just like physical health. I will continue to advocate for greater investments in our mental healthcare infrastructure - particularly in rural Iowa - so that every American who needs lifesaving support can get it as quickly as possible.

Last night, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted for, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed, the Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act of 2022 by a vote of 402 to 20.

SPEAKING TO STUDENTS WITH THE IOWA RURAL ELECTRIC COOPERATIVES' YOUTH TOUR UNDER THE CAPITOL

On Wednesday, I spoke with students who are visiting our nation's capitol as part of the annual Iowa Rural Electric Cooperatives' Youth Tour. They have the opportunity to learn about American history and see firsthand how our federal government functions.

As I told them, we are government together, and their voices can make a difference.

WORKING TO LOWER SKYROCKETING FERTILIZER COSTS

Last week, I testified before the U.S. International Trade Commission - a federal agency that advises the legislative and executive branches on trade-related matters - on the skyrocketing cost of fertilizer for American farmers.

Congress has various tools at its disposal to help lower input costs in the medium and long term, and I continue to work with my colleagues to find solutions.
Commerce rules fertilizer imports were subsidized,...

The Commerce Department has issued final rulings that Russia and Trinidad and Tobago unfairly subsidize exports of urea ammonium nitrate fertilizer, which is dumped in the U.S. at below market prices. The rulings bring the U.S.

MY CONVERSATION WITH MY COLLEAGUE FROM ALABAMA ON THE INFANT FORMULA SHORTAGE

A few weeks ago, I sat down with my colleague from Alabama, Rep. Gary Palmer, to discuss my Formula Act - which I introduced with my friend Rep. Stephanie Bice from Oklahoma - to alleviate the severe infant formula shortages in Iowa and nationwide.

This legislation would direct the FDA to establish clear, uniform standards by which it regulates infant formula so that we can import safe formula supplies when domestic production fails to meet demand.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: MAJOR BIOFUELS LEGISLATION PASSES THE HOUSE!

I'm proud that five pieces of bipartisan legislation I helped introduce to support our biofuels industry and our family farmers passed the House last week. The bipartisan packaged included bills to allow for year-round E-15 sales and support higher blends of biofuels at gas stations in the 4th District.

Iowa ethanol and biodiesel can lower gas prices and make our country energy independent again. This legislation gives our biofuels producers the support they need to unleash greater production and give Iowans a cheaper, cleaner option at the pump.

ONE MORE THING: RECOVERING FROM THE 2020 DERECHO
Almost two years ago, Iowa suffered one of the worst derechos in our state's history, causing roughly $11 billion in damage and tragically taking the lives of three Iowans. I was proud to work in Congress to secure critical relief funding for recovery efforts in the aftermath of the storms.

As our communities continue to rebuild, I am grateful to Legal Services Corp. for awarding Iowa Legal Aid two grants in the amount of $1,405,000 and $35,000 to provide legal assistance and other support to Iowans recovering from the devastating impacts of the 2020 derecho.
