Dear friend,
Today our worst nightmares have come true. The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, removing the constitutional right to abortion that has stood for 50 years. Without Roe’s protection, 26 states across the country are poised to ban or restrict abortion. We know the impacts of this decision will be immediate and will disproportionately affect Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and other people of color, especially those with low-incomes and in rural areas.
This might seem like a scary and confusing time, but I am here to tell you that despite the Court’s failure to defend this fundamental freedom, abortion is still legal in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. PPMW’s doors are still open and we will continue to provide abortion to all who come to us in need of care.
We understand the stakes are incredibly high. This fight is like nothing we have seen in a generation. You have stood with us in this fight, some of you for decades, but be assured that PPMW will not back down for what is the fight of our lives. Together we will do everything possible to live up to the promise of care no matter what, whether that is for people in the DMV or those in other parts of the country who need to come to us for care.
We invite you to join us today. PPMW will meet starting at 4:00PM at the corner of 2nd NE and F St NE (near Ebenezers Coffeehouse) to gather in solidarity with fellow supporters, hand out t-shirts, and then walk together to the national Bans Off rally, which will begin at 5pm at Columbus Circle outside of Union Station.
With deep gratitude for your partnership,
