“As long as there is still a movement, as long as this fire
remains in our hearts, we still have a chance.”
 - Hong Kong university student, Sonia Ng

Dear John,

Today, on Giving Tuesday, will you give the powerful gift of hope?

Around the world, millions of ordinary citizens are taking to the streets,
raising their voices, and demanding a better future. Women and youth are often
on the frontlines of this massive surge of protests, bravely refusing to be
silent in the face of government failure and repression.

And today they need your help.

The mass protests shaking Hong Kong, Iraq, Chile, and elsewhere are a cry for hope from people pushed to the brink by growing inequality, deepening injustice, the corruption
and abuses of authoritarian regimes, and fear of climate chaos if nothing is
done to change our future.

Sadly, these peaceful protests are often met with extremely harsh response from
state authorities using police violence, mass arrests, fake news, and harassment
to break the protesters' spirits and drive them to give up.

Today you can give them hope.

On Giving Tuesday make a gift of hope for the courageous people putting
themselves on the line to demand a better future. Make a gift today for dignity and justice for all.

At Amnesty International we always make it clear that protesting peacefully is
not a crime. It is in fact a human right.

But peaceful protesters can often face violence and threats.

"They began to beat protesters with sticks and push us. They tried to beat me
... There were security forces there but they stood on the sidelines." - Fatima, a teacher in Lebanon

Your tax-creditable donation will ensure that, together, we can speak out more
loudly to defend human rights and freedom of expression.

You can give strength to the people in Hong Kong standing firm in the face of this weekend's violent attacks by security forces.

You can stand with the people in Iran where security forces have killed more than 200 protesters using live
ammunition.

You can give hope to the people in Chile amid reports of widespread abuses including excessive use of force, torture,
illegal raids and arbitrary detention.

Your gift to Amnesty International will send a message of hope to brave citizens across the globe that, yes, your voice is being heard and
someone actually cares enough to do something.

Safety, dignity, life and hope. Nothing matters more.

Please give today.
