Jack, the Supreme Court just overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion in the United States.
We’ve anticipated this day since Justice Alito’s draft opinion was leaked in May, but knowing it was coming doesn’t help ease the pain. The plain truth is that millions of people are now left without abortion access in their home states. (This thread from ineedana is an excellent guide on when anti-abortion laws take effect in different states following the ruling.)
But let me stop for a minute. If you’re anything like me, I think I know how you’re feeling in this moment. Filled with rage that has nowhere to go but back inside, ballooning up like dread, or grief, or exhaustion. Maybe you, too, feel frozen in the path of an incoming wave, unable to dig your toes back out from the sand. I’ll tell you this, though: there is a concrete way you can help people access abortion right now.
Abortion funds are working day and night to ensure people can STILL access the abortion care they need. Rush a donation to help support their work and fund abortion now.
DONATE
When you donate to abortion funds, you’re helping cover the cost of someone’s abortion. Depending on the fund, you might also be contributing to that person’s practical assistance needs: transportation to and from the clinic, lodging, translation services, child care, and more.
You’ll notice that the groups listed on our fundraising page are in red states and some of the blue states surrounding them—and that’s on purpose. With the fall of Roe, more and more people are going to be traveling out of hostile states into abortion-friendly states to access care, and abortion funds everywhere will be working together to cover travel and procedure costs.
It’s so easy to feel like nothing will make a difference right now. But if you have any spare change in your pocket—even $5 or $10—I can promise you that it will add up and make an impact.
Jack, I’m hoping we can count on you to donate to abortion funds. Please chip in now to help people access the medical care they need.
