Friend, it’s Emma Schimley, DAGA’s Digital Media Strategist.
As we continue to process the devastating news from the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, we want to take the opportunity to share a reminder that we have a voice in this fight.
With our voices, and our votes, we have the power to fight back against attacks on abortion access across the country. We can exercise that power by making sure that we elect Dem AGs who proudly support access to abortion in critical states like Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin in this year's elections.
Here’s the simple truth: It’s now up to the states to protect abortion access.
Without a constitutionally protected right to an abortion, 26 states could quickly move to ban it, leaving 36 million women and patients without access to the abortion care they need in their state. As Republican AGs are supporting harmful laws that restrict or ban abortion access, Dem AGs are fighting to protect access to reproductive health care.
In Michigan, Attorney General Dana Nessel, who is up for re-election this year, has stated that she will not enforce the state’s 1931 law that bans most abortions in the state if it takes effect, saying “I will not enforce it, and neither will I defend it.”
