In a 6-3 ruling, the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade this morning.

This decision means that access to abortion is not considered a constitutional right by the Supreme Court.

Arkansas already had a trigger law signed in 2019 that states as soon as Roe v. Wade is overturned, abortion will be illegal in Arkansas in nearly every situation.

Today’s decision triggered that law banning abortions, even in rape and incest cases. This law also includes prison sentences for those who provide services in violation of the law.

Leslie Rutledge, my opponent and current Attorney General, will be the person who certifies that the SCOTUS did overturn Roe v. Wade, and the AR trigger law should go into effect. She’s incredibly excited to do this and considers making Arkansas one of the toughest states to get an abortion one of her most significant achievements.

2021 polling shows that 51% of Arkansans, when asked if abortion should be legal or illegal, said, “It depends” – this is a deeply personal issue that should be made between a person and their healthcare provider, not our government.

Right now, Illinois will likely be the closest state if you need an abortion and live in Arkansas.

Groups like the Arkansas Abortion Support Network have been preparing for this moment and building their plans to assist people seeking an abortion without violating those laws.
