Dear John,
Today I have some very serious thoughts on voting vs. not voting.
Today in Oklahoma, an 18-year-old boy can be mad at someone or something. Anything. He can go and legally buy a gun and ammunition, leave the store, and take his life or the lives of others. A school full of children, a church filled with worshippers, innocent folks having a nice dinner or simply shopping for
groceries.
Why? Because of past voting decisions or the decision not to vote.
Today in Oklahoma, a 16-year-old girl can find herself pregnant and know with 100% certainty that she has zero choice in whether or not to give birth to a child she cannot afford and is ill-equipped to care for.
Why? Because of past voting decisions or the decision not to vote.
Enough!
Any time a Democrat decides not to vote, they are giving up their rights and the rights of future generations. The most recent Supreme Court rulings are directly related to the outcome of previous elections. It is cumulative and the results are disastrous for Oklahomans and all Americans.
Today we must all commit to voting for positive change. Today we must encourage everyone we know to do the same. No more sitting on our hands. No more waiting for Republicans to “finally come around.” They have not and they will not. If we fail to vote, we are literally handing our futures to people who are determined to eliminate our fundamental rights.
Today, the Oklahoma Democratic Party needs your help. We have to fight like hell to preserve the freedoms we have left. We have to register more Democrats. We have to engage lapsed voters. We have to educate new voters. And this all takes money.
I would not ask for your financial support if we weren’t staring, literally, down the barrel of a loaded gun. Please, help us in helping our fellow Oklahomans. Any gift in any amount will be put to immediate use in electing more Democrats this year!
If it seems like I’m desperate, it’s because these are desperate times. Won’t you join our solid efforts to elect more Democrats and return us to a place where the American Dream is truly a possibility for all Oklahomans? Please, make your contribution right now.
I am thankful for your support and remain in solidarity with you.
With great respect,
