Friend,
Today is a troubling day in our nation’s history. The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and upended a half-century of jurisprudence protecting the fundamental right to
abortion. Individual states now have the power to restrict or ban abortion.
Following the Court’s decision, many states’ trigger laws will go into effect —
some states will ban abortion outright, others will criminalize those who seek
abortion and abortion providers.
This is just the beginning. Many other states are prepared to follow suit and
put their own restrictive and punitive laws on the books. The consequences will
be devastating, especially for low-income communities and people of color,
including immigrants, who face systemic barriers to their reproductive health.
We stand in solidarity with those impacted and all the groups working on the
ground to ensure access to safe abortions. The right to choose an abortion and
make choices about our reproductive health care should be ours and only ours.
To secure reproductive rights for all, we must abolish the archaic Senate
filibuster, which is being weaponized to prevent Congress from passing critical
legislation, which would protect reproductive rights nationwide and stop states
from enacting anti-abortion laws.
It’s time RIGHT NOW for our elected leaders to abolish the filibuster and
protect the right to choose once and for all and prevent the catastrophic
consequences of today’s Supreme Court decision. We cannot wait.
