What we have long-feared would happen has come to pass with the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade this morning.

Let me be clear: pro-choice elected officials need to band together and fight for reproductive rights in every office. That includes bypassing the filibuster to protect a woman’s right to access an abortion and make her own healthcare decisions.

But this decision — while awful for women everywhere — will hit Arizonans hard. Because of state laws on the books here, Arizona will institute a “near-total abortion ban.”

There’s also a law on the books that will criminalize those seeking abortion and provides for a minimum prison sentence of two years for anyone who helps a woman obtain an abortion.

So today is a day that’s important for ALL OF US to do what we can to help those who need access to an abortion get one.

Six of Arizona’s nine abortion clinics are in Maricopa County, my home county. I am going to make a contribution to the Abortion Fund of Arizona, which helps women who can’t afford abortions get access to the care they need. I hope you’ll join me.

Please make a contribution — of any amount you can afford — to the Abortion Fund of Arizona and help women in Arizona, a state uniquely impacted by the SCOTUS decision, get the care they need.
