Introducing Our Statewide Ticket |
Chairman Kyle Hupfer poses with our statewide ticket after the 2022 Indiana Republican Party Convention. From L-R: Chairman Kyle Hupfer, candidate for secretary of state Diego Morales, candidate for auditor of state Tera Klutz, and candidate for treasurer of state Daniel Elliott. |
This past weekend, Hoosiers from across the state filled the Indiana Farmers Coliseum to nominate our statewide ticket for the November elections and adopt our party platform. This was my third state convention as chairman of the Indiana Republican Party, and like the other two, it was an honor to stand before you all. It was also great to see so many familiar faces and meet new ones, too. As I noted during my remarks on Saturday, one of my favorite job parts about the role as chairman is that I get to meet and talk to a lot of you from across the state. Nowhere close to all 1.7 million Hoosier Republicans (and growing), but enough to understand the breadth and depth of support we enjoy as party. One that is very clear is that we have a very diverse set of individuals that make up that 1.7 million. It's diverse in age, gender, and race...those things are easy to see. But they are also very diverse in their sense of individual beliefs and what within in them makes them first, identify as a Republican, and then on election day, cast a vote in our favor.
I believe that diversity of thought is a strength of our party. But I'm afraid a number is growing that think it's a weakness or that it's something to attack. We've come to strengthen this state by growing our party, by adding new members, and generally following President Reagan's admonition that if you are with me 80% you're a friend and an ally, not a 20% enemy. We will not always agree on every single topic or issue...that's impossible. But there is plenty of us to agree on. We must continue to find ways to come together and support fellow each other. I support all Republicans, even if we don't agree on everything, even if it's perceived that I'm more conservative than you or you're more conservative than me. I want you in this party, we need you in this party...we need your voice and we need your vote. And with our statewide ticket set, we must now look forward to November...to continuing to strengthen our state by electing candidates who will continue the legacy of leadership that these offices have provided to Hoosiers for years and years. Energized and united, we can make sure that each one of our candidates crosses the finish line first this November. Congratulations to our nominees of Tera Klutz for auditor of state, Diego Morales for secretary of state, and Daniel Elliott for treasurer of state. Now, onward to victory in November!

Governor Holcomb's Week That Was |

Statement on the Overruling of Roe v. Wade |
|
|
Today, Governor Holcomb issued the following statement on the overruling of Roe v. Wade.
"The Supreme Court’s decision is clear, and it is now up to the states to address this important issue. We’ll do that in short order in Indiana. I’ve already called the General Assembly back on July 6, and I expect members to take up this matter as well.
"I have been clear in stating I am pro-life. We have an opportunity to make progress in protecting the sanctity of life, and that’s exactly what we will do." |
Calling for a Special Legislative Session to Take Action on His Plan to Return $1 Billion to Hoosiers |
On Wednesday, Governor Holcomb announced signed a proclamation calling a special session for the General Assembly to convene on July 6, 2022, to take action on his plan to return more than $1 billion of state reserves to Hoosier taxpayers.
“This is the fastest, fairest and most efficient way to return taxpayers' hard-earned money during a time of economic strain,” said Gov. Holcomb. “Indiana’s economy is growing and with more than $1 billion of revenue over current projections, Hoosier taxpayers deserve to have their money responsibly returned. I’m happy to be able to take this first step and look forward to signing this plan into law as soon as possible.” Each taxpayer would collect about $225 in addition to $125 Hoosiers are currently receiving from the state’s automatic taxpayer refund. All told, each eligible Hoosier would receive about $350; a married couple filing jointly would receive about $700. |
Statement by Chairman Kyle Hupfer on the U.S. Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Decision |
Today, Chairman Kyle Hupfer released the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization that overturned the Court's Roe v. Wade decision: “Today is a victory for life.
“This historic ruling is a long, overdue correction to the egregiously decided Roe v. Wade decision and has rightfully returned the question of life back to the states where it belongs.
“Hoosiers firmly believe — as stated in the U.S. Constitution — that life is foundational to liberty.
“The Indiana Republican Party has been unwavering in its defense of life from conception to natural death. I look forward to the special session that Governor Holcomb has called so we can implement our longstanding values on life.” ### |
Statement by Chairman Kyle Hupfer on Gov. Holcomb Calling a Special Legislative Session to Act on His Plan to Return $1 Billion to Hoosiers |
Yesterday, Chairman Kyle Hupfer released the following statement on Governor Eric Holcomb calling a special legislative session to act on his plan to return $1 billion to Hoosiers: "At a time of skyrocketing inflation and soaring gas prices caused by the extreme, anti-energy agenda of the Biden administration and DC Democrats, Governor Holcomb's proposal to return $1 billion to taxpayers is a welcome sign of relief. "Due to hardworking Hoosiers, responsible Republican fiscal leadership, and Indiana's growing economy, our state is in a position to take this unprecedented move to return $1 billion to Hoosiers at a time when it is sorely needed, providing direct, flexible relief at a scale much larger than that of a suspension of the gas tax for three months. "While a long-term solution can only come from the Biden administration reversing its disastrous course and producing American energy again, Governor Holcomb's proposal is the fairest, fastest, and most efficient way to return money to Hoosiers' pockets and provide some relief during the summer months." ###

Democrats Face Congressional 'Rout' Amid Historically Terrible Headwinds
|
From The Hill:
"Midterm election years are almost never good for a president’s party. Even before the calamitous events of the past 10 months, Democrats knew the first midterm election of President Biden’s tenure in office would be a challenge.
"But the cascade of catastrophe that has so dented what little American optimism remained in the waning days of the pandemic and the associated economic recovery has even the most optimistic Democratic Party strategists and pollsters staring into an unprecedented abyss. Their standing, about five months before voters head to the polls, is worse than it has been for any president in modern times, by almost any indicator. "A new study compiled by Gallup comparing widely used barometers of midterm attitudes since 1974, which has made the rounds widely in Democratic circles this week, underscores just how bad the atmosphere has become." |

|
From News 8: "Members of Indiana’s Congressional delegation are demanding answers about the possibility of rolling electricity blackouts in the state this summer. "The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) has warned the Midwest, including Indiana, is at a “high risk” for energy shortfalls during peak conditions this summer.
"The letter, addressed to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chairman Richard Glick, seeks details on a Biden Administration plan to prevent summer power outages and blackouts." |
