Welcome to Friday, June 24th, friends...

The U.S. Supreme Court has overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade case, ending nearly 50 years of constitutional protections for abortion.

The landmark ruling will allow states to ban access to abortions.

"The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority," the court's conservatives wrote in their majority opinion.

The Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was released on Friday, overturning Roe v. Wade and removing the constitutional right to obtain an abortion prior to fetal viability, around 23 to 28 weeks of pregnancy. What happens now?

Americans can expect to see a shift to state bans, restrictions, and regulations. People will cross over state lines for abortions, doctors and women could be subject to criminal or civil charges for abortions, and there may be further restrictions on reproductive rights.

The Supreme Court's decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health case overturns past abortion precedents under Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. The ruling effectively sends the issue back to the states to determine how restrictive or permissive their abortion policies should be.

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely—the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment."
